A1-R3: IT TOOLS AND APPLICATIONS : JULY 2003

NOTE:
1. There are TWO PARTS in this Module/paper. PART ONE contains FOUR questions and PART TWO contains FOUR questions.

2. PART ONE is to be answered in the TEAR-OFFANSWER SHEET only, attached to the question paper, as per the instructions contained therein. PART ONE is NOT to be answered in the answer book.

3. Maximum time allotted for PART ONE is ONE HOUR. Answer book for PART TWO will be supplied at the table when the answer sheet for PART ONE is returned. However, candidates who complete PART ONE earlier than one hour, can collect the answer book for PART TWO immediately after handing over the answer sheet for PART ONE.

2. Each statement below is either TRUE or FALSE. Choose the most appropriate one and ENTER in the “tear-off” sheet attached to the question paper, following instructions therein. (1 x 10).

2.1 In order to Quit Word, you will first click on File menu followed by click on the Close option.
2.2 Print Preview does not allow editing of the document.

a) What is a range in Excel? What does naming a range mean? What is the process of creating them?
b) There are three ways to view and edit your presentation. Describe each one of them briefly.
c) Describe the Mail merge operation in Microsoft Word. What is Mail Merge Helper? What are the steps involved in its usage?
d) What are the points to be kept in mind while creating a Presentation?

7. Answer any three from the following:
a) In Linux, how does the script know what shell it should use?
b) Name any four procedural programming languages mentioning the application area where each is being generally used.
c) In Microsoft Excel, when you are dealing with large volumes of numbers, representing data via charts is advantageous. Support this statement with your viewpoint.
d) Convert the following numbers:
i) Binary 110101 into Decimal Number.
ii) Decimal 25 into Binary Number.

a) Distinguish between impact and non-impact printers. Categorize dot matrix printer, daisy wheel printer, thermal printer and inkjet printer as impact or non-impact printer.

c) Differentiate between multiprogramming and time-sharing.
d) What is a page break? What are soft and hard page breaks?
e) How do you change the number formats in Microsoft Excel?
